Mahmoud Ahmed Ibrahim Hassan (born 1 October 1994) is a professional footballer from Egypt. He is widely known by his nickname, Trézéguet. He plays as a forward for Qatar Stars League club Al-Rayyan. He is currently on loan from the Turkish club Trabzonspor. Trézéguet also plays for the Egypt national team.
His nickname comes from the famous French footballer David Trezeguet. Mahmoud's youth coach noticed that he played and even looked similar to David Trezeguet.
Mahmoud started his football journey with Al Ahly in Egypt. He joined their main team when he was just 18. He helped them win the 2012 CAF Champions League and 2013 CAF Champions League. In 2015, he moved to the Belgian team Anderlecht. He then played on loan for Mouscron and Kasımpaşa. At Kasımpaşa, he scored more goals than any other Egyptian player in the Turkish league in one season. This led the club to sign him permanently in 2018.
Trézéguet has played for Egypt's national teams at different age levels, including Under-20 and Under-23. He made his first appearance for the senior Egyptian team in 2014 when he was 19. He was part of Egypt's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played in all three group matches. So far, he has played over 79 games for his country and scored 21 goals.
Club Career Highlights
Starting at Al Ahly
Trézéguet was born in Kafr El Sheikh governorate, Egypt. He got his nickname Trézéguet when he was nine years old. His youth coach, Badr Ragab, gave it to him because he scored many goals and had a shaved head, just like the French player David Trezeguet.
He first played as a striker. He joined the youth academy of Al Ahly, a big Egyptian club. Later, a coach named Ali Maher suggested he play as a midfielder. He moved up to the main team when Manuel José de Jesus was the manager.
Trézéguet played his first professional game in the 2012 CAF Champions League. He came on as a substitute against Zamalek. His manager, Jesus, said he was "one of the best youngsters he's ever came across." Al Ahly won the Champions League that year and again in 2013.
In 2013, he had a chance to try out for French club Nice. He also had a trial with English club Nottingham Forest. In 2013, Scottish club Celtic also tried to sign him. However, Trézéguet decided to stay with Al Ahly.
In January 2015, he won the Best Egypt-based Player Award. He helped Al Ahly win the Egyptian Premier League title in the 2014–15 season.
Moving to Anderlecht

On 6 August 2015, Trézéguet joined Belgian team Anderlecht on a loan deal. Anderlecht had the option to buy him permanently later. Soon after arriving, he broke his shoulder while training with the national team. This injury kept him out of action for several months.
He returned to training in December 2015. He made his first game for Anderlecht on 27 December 2015. He came on as a substitute in a 2–1 win. The manager, Besnik Hasi, said Trézéguet had "great ability and speed."
In March 2016, Anderlecht decided to sign Trézéguet permanently. This happened even though he had only played seven league games. In May, the move was made official.
Loan to Mouscron
Before the 2016–17 season, Trézéguet scored four goals in pre-season games. But Anderlecht decided to loan him out so he could play more. He joined another Belgian team, Royal Excel Mouscron, for a season.
He quickly made an impact at Mouscron. In his first seven games, he was involved in five goals. He scored two goals and helped set up three others. His manager called him the "most talented player in our team."
Mouscron was fighting to avoid being relegated (moved down to a lower league). Trézéguet's good performances helped them. In the last game of the season, he scored a goal that helped Mouscron win 2–0. This win meant they stayed in the top league. He scored seven goals in 28 games for Mouscron.
Playing for Kasımpaşa
After returning to Anderlecht, Trézéguet moved to Turkish team Kasımpaşa. He joined them on a season-long loan deal in 2017. Kasımpaşa also had the option to buy him permanently.
He played his first game for Kasımpaşa on the first day of the 2017–18 season. He scored the first goal in a 3–1 victory. He scored five goals in his first twelve games. He even scored two goals in a cup match.
In February 2018, he scored his tenth goal of the season. This made him only the seventh Egyptian player to score ten or more goals in a European league. He also broke the record for most goals by an Egyptian player in the Turkish top league. Because of his great play, Kasımpaşa decided to make his transfer permanent.
In the summer of 2018, other clubs wanted to sign him. He talked with Galatasaray and was also linked with Inter Milan. He was also close to joining Czech team Slavia Prague. But Trézéguet decided to stay with Kasımpaşa. He was even nominated for the Süper Lig Player of the Year award.
Joining Aston Villa
On 24 July 2019, Trézéguet joined Premier League club Aston Villa in England. He made his first appearance on 10 August in a game against Tottenham Hotspur.
Trézéguet scored his first goal for Aston Villa on 2 November 2019 against Liverpool. On 28 January 2020, he scored a winning goal in the EFL Cup semi-final against Leicester City. This sent Villa to their first final in the tournament since 2010.
He played a very important part in Aston Villa staying in the Premier League. He scored three key goals against Crystal Palace and Arsenal in the final games of the season.
In November 2020, Trézéguet had a facial injury. Soon after, he had a hamstring injury. In January 2021, he tested positive for COVID-19. He finally returned to play on 23 January 2021.
On 10 April 2021, he suffered a serious knee injury (torn ACL) during a game against Liverpool. This injury kept him out of play for a long time. He returned to the team on 2 January 2022.
Loan to İstanbul Başakşehir
On 8 February 2022, Trézéguet went on loan to İstanbul Başakşehir in Turkey. He wanted to play more games and get back to full fitness. He played his first game for them on 12 February 2022 and even got an assist.
Playing for Trabzonspor
On 4 July 2022, Trézéguet returned to the Süper Lig permanently. He joined Trabzonspor, who were the champions at the time.
Loan to Al-Rayyan
In September 2024, Trézéguet joined Qatari club Al-Rayyan. He signed a loan deal for one season.
International Career
Trézéguet played for Egypt's Under-20 team. He was part of the squad for the 2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In a group game, he scored a goal against England. Even though they won, Egypt was eliminated from the tournament.
He made his debut for the senior national team on 30 August 2014. He was 19 years old. His first goal for Egypt came in his third game, a 2–0 win.
He was chosen for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations squad. He played regularly and helped Egypt reach the final, where they lost to Cameroon. He also played a part in Egypt qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
In May 2018, he was named in Egypt's team for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. He started all three of Egypt's group matches. Egypt lost all three games and was eliminated.

Trézéguet recovered from injury in time to play in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2022. On 30 January 2022, he scored a winning goal in extra time against Morocco in the quarter-finals. He played in all of Egypt's games in the tournament. Egypt reached the final but lost to Senegal in a penalty shootout.
