Early Life and Education
Tracy Griffith grew up in Bedford, New York. Her father, Peter Griffith, was an actor and producer. Her mother, Nanita Greene, was a model and actress. Tracy has a younger brother named Clay, who works as a production designer. Her half-sister is the famous actress Melanie Griffith.
In the early 1970s, Tracy and her family moved to Saint John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Her parents separated in 1975. Tracy went to a boarding school in Maryland and finished in 1979. After that, she spent three years at the University of Tennessee. There, she became very interested in acting and decided to leave college in 1984 to pursue her dream.
Acting Career Highlights
Tracy Griffith worked in Hollywood and New York for 12 years. She appeared in several films with her half-sister, Melanie Griffith. These included Fear City (1985) and Crazy in Alabama (1999).
She also had roles in many other movies and TV shows. Some of her film credits include The Good Mother (1988), Fast Food (1989), and The First Power (1990). On television, she was a regular on the ABC drama series The Monroes in 1995. She also appeared in popular shows like 21 Jump Street and the miniseries Ruby Ridge: An American Tragedy.
Becoming a Sushi Chef
Tracy Griffith made history as the first female graduate of the California Sushi Academy. This made her one of the world's first certified female sushi chefs! She worked as a special sushi chef at Tsunami's in Beverly Hills. She was also a partner and chef at Rika's on Sunset, a sushi restaurant in Los Angeles.
Tracy even created a special style of sushi that didn't use raw fish. This idea led her to write a cookbook called Sushi American Style, which came out in 2004. In 2013, she released another book, "Stealth Health: Lunches Kids Love." This book features recipes that children can make themselves. Tracy also starred as a chef and host on the Cooking with D.I.Y. series and Celebrity Hobbies on the D.I.Y. Network.
Personal Life and Art
Tracy Griffith married fashion executive Mark Daley on September 17, 2011.
Besides her acting and cooking careers, Tracy is also a talented artist. She is a landscape painter, especially known for her paintings of the Napa Valley area. Her first art show was in San Francisco in 2011. In January 2018, she had a solo art show in London at the Rebecca Hossack Gallery, called Herd. In 2019, she moved to Florence, Alabama, where she opened her very own art gallery. She also released a music CD called Red in 2006.
