Trade Wind Airport is a small airfield located in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts. It is found in Dukes County on the beautiful island of Martha's Vineyard. An airfield is a place where aircraft can take off and land.

About Trade Wind Airport

Trade Wind Airport has been open and used by planes since at least 1938. It has two runways made of grass, also called turf. These runways are named 6/24 and 13/31. However, only runway 6/24 is currently used by planes.

There is a building called a hangar at the airport. A hangar is like a garage for airplanes. But, you cannot get fuel for planes here. Also, planes cannot stay parked overnight. If a pilot needs to park their plane overnight, they must use one of the other two airports on Martha's Vineyard. These are Martha's Vineyard Airport or Katama Airpark.

Who Owns the Airport?

The airport is located on a large piece of land. This land is 71.9 acres big and is known as the Trade Wind Fields Preserve. The airport is owned and managed by the Martha's Vineyard Land Bank Commission. This group helps protect important lands on Martha's Vineyard.

How to Land a Plane Here

Trade Wind Airport is a special kind of airport. It is privately owned but can be used by the public. This means that not just anyone can land there. Pilots must first get permission.

To land a plane, pilots need to ask for permission from the Land Bank. They do this by filling out a form on the Land Bank's website. Once they get an email saying they can land, that permission is good until December 31st of that year. Pilots need to renew their permission every year.
