Tremont Music Hall was a popular place for live music in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was named after its address, 400 West Tremont Avenue. This music spot opened in 1995 and quickly became famous. It was known for hosting many independent, metal, and alternative bands. Many shows at Tremont Music Hall were open to all ages. The venue closed its doors on December 19, 2015.
The Main Concert Hall
The Main Hall at Tremont Music Hall was the biggest space. It was located on the north side of the building. This hall was used for larger bands and national touring acts. It had a great sound and light system for big shows.
Bands performing in the Main Hall had two dressing rooms. There was also a special loading dock. This made it easy for bands to bring their equipment in and out. Tour buses and large trucks could park nearby.
The stage in the Main Hall was about 19 feet wide and 24 feet deep. It was 3 feet high. There was also a special platform for drummers. This platform could be moved or taken away if needed.
Many famous bands and artists played in the Main Hall. Some of these include:
- Green Day
- Blues Traveler
- Ween
- GWAR
- The Misfits
- Iggy Pop
- Henry Rollins
- Nickelback
- Fall Out Boy
- Megadeth
- Nelly Furtado
- Good Charlotte
- Rancid
- Killswitch Engage
- Anthrax
- Primus
- Danzig
- P.O.D.
Tremont Music Hall also gave local bands a chance to perform. Many people who worked there, like sound engineers, later moved on to bigger venues.
The Casbah Stage
The Casbah was a smaller stage inside Tremont Music Hall. It was located on the south side of the building, closer to the bar area. This stage was used several nights a week. It hosted smaller, local, and regional bands. Dance parties and club events also took place here.
Typically, 3 to 4 bands would play on the Casbah stage. Doors would open at 7 PM, and shows started at 8 PM. The Casbah used the old sound board from the Main Hall. It also had an updated sound system for the performers. A special lighting system was added for club events.
The stage and floor areas of the Casbah were updated in 2005 and again in 2009. These changes made the stage bigger. They also improved the space for larger shows and more people.
Some of the artists who played at the Casbah include:
- Tom Morello (from Rage Against the Machine)
- My Chemical Romance
- Creed
- MGMT
- Of Montreal
- Against Me!
- Sick of it all
- The Casualties
- Converge
- As I Lay Dying
- Chevelle

Besides the two main stages, performances also happened outside. The parking lot and a shed sometimes hosted shows. These outdoor spaces were used when the inside areas were not the best option.
