Trifolium monanthum is a type of clover often called the mountain carpet clover. It's a small plant found in parts of California and Nevada, especially in the Sierra Nevada mountains. You can also find it in Southern California in places like the Transverse Ranges and the San Jacinto Mountains. This clover likes to grow in forests, woodlands, and meadows that are higher up, usually above 1,500 meters (about 4,900 feet) in elevation.
What is Mountain Carpet Clover?
The mountain carpet clover (Trifolium monanthum) is a small plant that lives for more than two years. It grows in small groups or clumps. Its stems and leaves can be smooth or have a few tiny hairs.
Leaves and Flowers
The leaves of this clover are made up of small, oval-shaped parts called leaflets. Each leaflet can be up to 1.2 centimeters (about half an inch) long.
The plant's flowers grow in a small cluster, sometimes with just a few flowers, or even a single flower. Each flower is about 1.2 centimeters long. They are usually white, but sometimes they have small purple or lavender spots. This clover blooms, or flowers, from April to June each year.
