Tripwell is a small village, also called a hamlet, located on the western side of Whalsay, one of the beautiful Shetland Islands in Scotland. It's part of the Nesting area. You can find Tripwell south of Brough village and northeast of Marrister.
A small stream called Scarfmoor Burn flows by the east side of Tripwell, near an old mill. In the late 1970s, new homes were built here by the local council. These included special sheltered houses for older people and family homes with two or three bedrooms.
Discovering Tripwell: A Shetland Hamlet
Tripwell is a quiet place in the Shetland Islands, known for its peaceful surroundings. The Shetland Islands are a group of islands far north of mainland Scotland. They are famous for their unique culture, stunning landscapes, and wildlife.
Tripwell's History and People
Even small places like Tripwell have interesting stories! In 1993, a magazine called Ship's Monthly shared news about a local resident from Tripwell, Joseph Kay. He was doing research on the life of Captain Thomas Kay.
Captain Thomas Kay was a master of a sailing ship named Earl of Dunmore, which sailed between 1891 and 1903. This kind of research helps us learn more about the local history of the Shetland Islands and the people who lived there long ago. It shows how even individual stories can add to the rich history of a community.
