Trivendra Singh Rawat (born 20 December 1960) is an Indian politician. He served as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand from 2017 to 2021. A Chief Minister is like the head of the government for a state in India.
Before becoming Chief Minister, Rawat was involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a large Indian organization. He worked for the RSS from 1979 to 2002. He was also a key organizer for the Uttarakhand region. After Uttarakhand became a separate state in 2000, he continued his work there.
Rawat was first elected to the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly in 2002. This was during the state's very first elections. He won his seat from a place called Doiwala. He won again in the 2007 elections. During this time, he served as the state's Minister of Agriculture.
As a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a major political party, Rawat held important roles. He was in charge of the party's work in Jharkhand and led the party in Uttarakhand. In 2017, he won the Doiwala seat again. Because his party won a majority of seats, he was chosen to be the Chief Minister. He resigned from this position on 9 March 2021.

Early Life and Political Start
Trivendra Singh Rawat was born on 20 December 1960. His birthplace was Khairasain village in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. He was the youngest of nine children in his family. He studied journalism and earned his master's degree from Birla Campus in Srinagar. This campus is part of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University.
Rawat joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1979. In 1985, he became a pracharak (a full-time worker or campaigner) for the RSS in the Dehradun area. Later, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP is a political party that is connected to the RSS. He became the BJP's organizing secretary for the Uttarakhand region. He also worked closely with senior leader Lalji Tandon.
Rawat was very active in the movement to create the state of Uttarakhand. He was arrested several times during this time. After Uttarakhand became a state in 2000, Rawat was made the BJP president for the state.
In 2014, Rawat ran in a special election for the Doiwala seat. This seat became empty when former Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal left it. However, Rawat did not win this election.
Time as Chief Minister
In 2017, Trivendra Singh Rawat won the Doiwala Assembly seat again. After his party, the BJP, won the state elections, he became the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand.
In July 2019, Rawat made a comment about languages. He tweeted about preferring the Garhwali language over the Kumaoni language. This caused some discussion and people accused him of favoring one language over another.
On 9 March 2021, Rawat resigned from his role as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. This decision came after meetings with BJP leaders in Delhi. Reports showed that there was growing disagreement among other politicians in his party. There were also concerns about how the government handled the Chamoli flash floods.

Trivendra Singh Rawat did not run in the 2022 state assembly elections.
2024 General Election Success
In March 2024, it was announced that Rawat would be the BJP candidate for the Haridwar area. This was for the 2024 general elections. He won this election by a large number of votes, showing strong support from the public.
