Trot is a young girl known for her serious eyes and honest way of speaking. Her dad, Captain Charlie Griffiths, is often away at sea. Trot's best friend is Cap'n Bill, who used to work with her dad. They live together at her mom's boarding house by the California coast.
One day, Trot and Cap'n Bill get caught in a whirlpool! It takes them deep under the sea. There, they meet a flying creature called the Ork, who helps them reach Jinxland, a land beyond the Deadly Desert. Trot and Cap'n Bill have many exciting adventures in the Land of Oz. They even get their feet "rooted" to the ground while looking for a gift for Princess Ozma's birthday! Trot becomes one of the best friends of Dorothy Gale and Princess Ozma.
Trot's Adventures in Oz
Trot also plays a main role in other Oz books written by Ruth Plumly Thompson. These include Kabumpo in Oz and The Giant Horse of Oz.
The Magic Doll
In Kabumpo in Oz, Trot has a doll named Peg Amy. It turns out that Peg Amy is actually an enchanted princess from Sun-Top Mountain! Peg Amy later marries Prince Pompadore of Pumperdink. In another book, The Purple Prince of Oz, they are shown to have a daughter named Princess Pajonia.
Becoming a Princess
In The Giant Horse of Oz, Trot helps the Munchkin queen Orin reunite with her husband and son. Because of her help, Trot is made a princess of the Ozure Isles! In this book, it is said that Trot arrived in Oz and stopped aging when she was ten years old. This is the same age as Prince Philador of the Ozure Isles.
