Trowbridge is a part of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. It's located on the eastern side of the city. Trowbridge is known as both a community and an electoral ward. This means it's a defined area for local services and for choosing local representatives.
The Trowbridge community and electoral ward includes parts of the St Mellons estate and the Trowbridge area. It also covers some of the Wentlooge Levels, which are low-lying lands near the coast. Trowbridge is bordered by the village of Old St Mellons to the north and Marshfield to the east. To the west, it borders Splott and Rumney.

A Bit of History
Trowbridge is a fairly new area. Most of its buildings were constructed in the second half of the 20th century. This is when housing started to spread east from Rumney onto what used to be farmland.
Before 1938, the area was part of the Rumney civil parish. This was in the historic county of Monmouthshire.
How Trowbridge is Governed
Trowbridge is both an electoral ward and a community within the City of Cardiff. An electoral ward is an area that elects people to represent it on the local council. A community is a local area, but Trowbridge does not have its own separate community council.
Trowbridge sends four councillors to the Cardiff Council. These councillors represent the people of Trowbridge and help make decisions for the local area. In the Cardiff Council election in 2017, Trowbridge elected three councillors from the Labour Party and one from the Liberal Democrats. Before this, Labour councillors usually won seats in Trowbridge, except for one Liberal Democrat in 2004.
For national elections, Trowbridge used to be part of the Cardiff South & Penarth area for the UK Parliament. After the 2024 UK general election, it became part of the new Cardiff East area. For the Welsh Parliament (called the Senedd), Trowbridge remains in the Cardiff South and Penarth area until 2026.

Plans for a New Facility
In 2019, a company called Mor Hafren Bio Power suggested building a new facility in Wentloog, Trowbridge. This facility would be designed to turn up to 200,000 tonnes of waste into energy each year. It would also create 15 Megawatts of electricity.
Some people living in Trowbridge and other campaigners formed a group to discuss the proposal. They wanted to make sure their voices were heard about the plans. A final decision on whether this facility could be built was expected in 2020.
