Trujillo Alto barrio-pueblo is a special neighborhood, or 'barrio', in Puerto Rico. It's the main center for the town of Trujillo Alto. Think of it as the heart of the town where important things happen. In 2010, about 673 people lived here.
Just like in Spain, many towns in Puerto Rico have a special area called a 'pueblo'. This 'pueblo' usually has a main square, called a 'plaza'. You'll also find the town's important buildings, like the city hall, and a Catholic church there. Every year, fun celebrations called Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) take place in this central plaza.

The Central Plaza and Its Church
The main plaza, or town square, is a busy place in Trujillo Alto barrio-pueblo. It's used for both official events and just for fun. People gather here to hang out and socialize from morning until night.
Back in the early 1800s, Spanish laws called the Laws of the Indies guided life in Puerto Rico. These laws said the plaza should be "a good place for parties" (celebrations). They also said the square should be big enough for all the people living nearby. These old Spanish rules also made sure that the streets around the plaza had comfortable walkways. These walkways protected people from the sun and rain.
Right across from the central plaza in Trujillo Alto barrio-pueblo, you'll find a Roman Catholic church. Its name in Spanish is Parroquia Exaltación de la Santa Cruz.
History of Trujillo Alto Pueblo
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States Department of War counted the people in Puerto Rico. They found that 1,025 people lived in Trujillo Alto Pueblo at that time. The population has changed over the years, as you can see in the chart below.

Annual Festival
Trujillo Pueblo hosts a yearly event called the Festival Del Macabeo. In 2019, they celebrated the 39th time this festival was held. This festival celebrates a special local treat called macabeo. Macabeo is a delicious fried green banana dish. Both the festival and the macabeo dish are very important to the culture and history of Trujillo Alto.
