The Trump International Hotel Las Vegas is a very tall building in Paradise, Nevada. It is named after Donald Trump. This building is special because it works as a hotel, a place where people can own a condominium (like an apartment), and a timeshare. A timeshare lets many people share the right to use a property for a certain amount of time each year.

The hotel is 64 stories high. It is one of the tallest buildings in Las Vegas. The outside of the building looks shiny because its glass is mixed with real gold!

The first part of the hotel opened on March 31, 2008. It has 1,282 rooms for guests. There are also two restaurants inside. One is called DJT, which stands for the developer's initials. The other is H2(eau), a restaurant by the pool. Donald Trump had plans to build a second tower just like the first one. However, these plans were put on hold because of a big economic slowdown around 2008.

In 2012, the company that owns the hotel, the Trump Organization, sold about 300 of the condominium units. These were bought by Hilton Grand Vacations, a company that specializes in timeshares.

Building History: How it Was Built

In 2002, a businessman named Phil Ruffin announced a plan. He teamed up with Donald Trump to build a tall condominium tower in Las Vegas. They called it Trump Tower Las Vegas. It was planned to be 60 stories high and cost about $300 million. It was going to be built near another hotel called the New Frontier.

Donald Trump had thought about adding a casino to the building. But he decided not to. His son, Eric Trump, later explained why. He said they wanted to create a truly fancy and calm place. It's hard to have a quiet, high-quality hotel when there are loud casino games and people dressed casually.

Planning and Construction Begin

By 2004, the plans for the building changed. It became the Trump International Hotel and Tower. It would be a "condominium-hotel" with over 1,000 units. This means some units are hotel rooms, and others are apartments that people can buy.

In 2005, the project was valued at $1 billion. All 1,282 condominium units in the first tower were quickly reserved by people who wanted to buy them.

The official start of construction happened on July 12, 2005. This event was a big deal. Many important people, including politicians and celebrities, came to celebrate. A special sales center was opened. It had a 10-foot model of the tower to show people what it would look like.

Actual construction began in November 2005. The building's foundation was poured. Workers built one new floor about every six days. The tower reached its full height on May 25, 2007. The whole project cost $500 million. It was built on 3 acres of land that used to be a parking lot.

The Trump Hotel Las Vegas officially opened its doors on March 31, 2008. A special opening ceremony was held on April 11, 2008, with Donald Trump and Phil Ruffin present.

Plans for a Second Tower

Even before the first tower was finished, there were plans for a second one. This second tower would be exactly like the first, with 64 stories and 1,282 units. Sales for the second tower were supposed to start in late 2005.

By 2007, the second tower was even featured on Donald Trump's TV show, The Apprentice. The show's contestants had to create a marketing plan for it. The cost for the second tower was expected to be higher, around $625 million. This would have made the total cost for both towers about $1.1 billion.

However, the second tower was eventually put on hold. This was because of problems in the economy and credit markets. In 2015, Eric Trump said that building the second tower was still a "very good possibility" for the future.
