Tryon is a small community in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. It is an "unincorporated community," which means it's a place where people live but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Tryon is located in Cherryville Township. It's about 4.7 miles (7.6 km) southeast of the city of Cherryville. You can find it along North Carolina Highway 274. In 2000, about 1,524 people old enough to vote lived in the Tryon area.
Tryon's Place in History
Tryon has a cool connection to early American history. It's near where the courthouse for the old colonial-era Tryon County used to be. This was back when North Carolina was still a British colony.
The Tryon Resolves
A very important event happened at that courthouse. People there signed something called the Tryon Resolves. This was a declaration, like a strong statement, made during the time of the American Revolution. It showed that the people in the American Colonies were ready to resist the actions of the British Empire. This happened after the Battle of Lexington, which was one of the first battles of the Revolutionary War.
Education for Kids
The Tryon community is home to Tryon Elementary School. This school teaches students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Most students who go to Tryon Elementary later attend John Chavis Middle School and Cherryville High School in nearby Cherryville. However, some students living southeast of Tryon go to Bessemer City Middle and High Schools instead.
Local Industry and Services
There's some important industry in the Tryon area. The Bessemer City Quarry, run by Martin Marietta Aggregates, is located just east of the community. This quarry provides crushed rocks and other materials used in construction.
For safety, the Tryonota Volunteer Fire Department protects the community. They are a team of volunteers who help keep everyone safe from fires.
