Tshuah-ping (say "chwah-ping") is a super cool and yummy shaved ice dessert from Taiwan. It's also known as Baobing (say "bow-bing") in some places. This sweet treat became popular in Taiwan when Japan ruled the island. From Taiwan, it spread to Greater China and other countries where many Chinese people live, like Malaysia and Singapore.

In Taiwan, there's a special kind of Tshuah-ping called xuehua bing (say "shweh-hwa-bing"). The ice for xuehua bing isn't made from water. Instead, it's made from frozen milk, which gives it a creamy, snowy texture!

What is Tshuah-ping?

Tshuah-ping is basically a big pile of finely shaved ice. On top of this ice, people add all sorts of delicious things. It's like a cool, refreshing mountain of flavor!

Popular Toppings

There are many different toppings you can choose for your Tshuah-ping. Some of the most common ones include:

You can also find fresh fruit on Tshuah-ping, depending on the time of year. For example, if you want mango Tshuah-ping, you'll usually find it in the summer. If you prefer strawberry Tshuah-ping, that's more common in the winter.

How is it Made?

In the past, people made Tshuah-ping by hand. They would use a big hammer to crush blocks of ice or a sharp blade to shave it into fine pieces.

Today, most shops use special machines. These machines make the ice shavings even finer and thinner. This gives the dessert a really smooth and melt-in-your-mouth texture.
