Greater China facts for kids
Greater China is a name for all the areas that both China (officially called the People's Republic of China, or PRC) and Taiwan (officially called the Republic of China, or ROC) say belong to them. Even though they both claim these areas, they don't fully control all of them.
These areas include mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. China (PRC) controls mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. Taiwan (ROC) controls only Taiwan.
Even though these regions are all part of "Greater China," they each have their own important differences. For example, they have their own passports, their own currency (money), different rules for travel, and their own main sets of laws, called constitutions.
China's leader, Xi Jinping, added a new idea to the Communist Party's main rules during a big meeting in 2017. This idea says that all parts of China must come together and become one country.
