Dominant tree species Sequoiadendron giganteum

Tuolumne Grove is a special forest located in Yosemite National Park. It is famous for its amazing giant sequoia trees. These trees are some of the biggest living things on Earth! The grove is found near a place called Crane Flat. This area is on the edge of the Tuolumne River watershed.

You can find Tuolumne Grove about 16 miles (26 km) west of Yosemite Village. It is located along Tioga Pass Road.

Discover Tuolumne Grove

Tuolumne Grove is home to many different kinds of trees. Of course, the most famous are the giant sequoias. These huge trees can live for thousands of years. They are truly ancient giants!

What Makes This Grove Special?

Besides the giant sequoias, you can also find other conifer trees here. These include beautiful white firs (Abies concolor). There are also tall sugar pines (Pinus lambertiana). The forest floor is often covered with a dense growth of smaller plants, like dogwood flowers.

Exploring the Giant Trees

The grove has about six giant sequoias that are easy to see. One of the most interesting features is the "Dead Giant." This is a giant sequoia that has fallen over. But what makes it unique is a large tunnel cut right through it! This tunnel is big enough for a stagecoach to pass through. It's a fun spot to explore and imagine how people traveled long ago.
