Turkey is a small town located in Sampson County, North Carolina, in the United States. In 2020, about 213 people lived there. It's about 8 miles east of a bigger town called Clinton.
History of Turkey, North Carolina
The town of Turkey was once known as Springville. Its unique name comes from a story from its early days. A large group of wild turkeys moved into the area. The people living there saw this as a special sign.
The town's post office has sometimes received mail meant for the country of Turkey. Also, stamp collectors used to send letters there. They hoped to get a special Thanksgiving Day postmark on their stamps.
Two important places in Turkey are Cherrydale and the Hollingsworth-Hines Farm. These historic sites were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This means they are recognized for their special history.
