Twin City is a small city located in Emanuel County, Georgia, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,642 people lived there.

History of Twin City

Twin City got its unique name because it was formed by joining two towns that were next to each other: Graymont and Summit. These two towns, which used to be rivals, officially became one city in 1924 and were named Twin City.

A special part of Twin City, called the Twin City Historic District, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This area covers about 255 acres and includes old buildings like the historic jail and the former city hall.

Geography of Twin City

Twin City is located in the eastern part of Emanuel County. Its exact location is 32°34′50″N 82°9′28″W / 32.58056°N 82.15778°W / 32.58056; -82.15778.

U.S. Route 80 goes right through the city. This road can take you about 11 miles west to Swainsboro, which is the main town of the county. If you go about 25 miles east, you will reach Statesboro.

The United States Census Bureau says that Twin City covers a total area of about 9.4 square kilometers (3.6 square miles). Most of this area is land, with only a small part (about 0.1 square kilometers or 1.12%) being water.

Fun Places to Visit

George L. Smith State Park is a great place to visit in Emanuel County. It's famous for its Parrish Mill and Pond. This special spot has a grist mill (for grinding grain), a saw mill (for cutting wood), a covered bridge, and a dam, all built in 1880. You can take tours to learn about its history.

If you like fishing or canoeing, you can explore the mill pond. It's filled with trees draped in Spanish moss and is home to beautiful birds like blue herons and white ibises. For hikers, there are seven miles of trails where you might spot gopher tortoises, which are Georgia's state reptile!
