Two Mile Hill is a small area and parish located on the eastern side of the city of Bristol. It sits just west of Kingswood, which is part of South Gloucestershire. You can find Two Mile Hill Primary School in this neighborhood.

What's in Two Mile Hill?

People aren't exactly sure how Two Mile Hill got its name. One idea is that it was named when it became separate from the nearby St George's parish. The name might also come from Two Mile Hill Road, which runs through the area.

A street called Queen Street in Two Mile Hill was once known for having a lot of traffic. It was often used by drivers trying to avoid busier main roads.

Years ago, the local football team, Bristol Rovers F.C., had a shop here. Fans could buy team merchandise and tickets for matches at the Memorial Stadium. However, the shop closed in 2018. It wasn't making enough money, and fans could already get what they needed at the stadium.

Important Churches in Two Mile Hill

Two Mile Hill is home to some interesting churches with long histories.

St Michael's Church

The Church of England parish church, St Michael's, is on Two Mile Hill Road. This church was built in 1848. It was designed in the Gothic Revival style, which means it looks like old medieval churches. St Michael's is one of seven special churches in Bristol known as Commissioners' churches. In 1994, it was given a special status by English Heritage, meaning it's an important historic building.

Early Methodist Churches

Two Mile Hill was also important for the start of Methodism. John Wesley, one of the main founders of Methodism, chose this area for a Methodist school and a place for preaching.

The very first Primitive Methodist Church chapel in the United Kingdom was also located here. It opened in 1841. Later, in 1849, the building was changed and taken over by the Salvation Army.
