The Two Rivers is a small river, about 7 miles (11.3 kilometers) long, located in Kittson County, in the northwestern part of Minnesota, United States. It gets its name because it's formed when two smaller rivers, the North Branch and the South Branch, join together. This river is a branch of the Red River of the North. Its water eventually travels all the way north through Lake Winnipeg and the Nelson River to reach Hudson Bay.

Where Does the Two Rivers Flow?

The Two Rivers is special because it's made up of three main parts: the North Branch, the South Branch, and the Middle Branch. These branches flow through different areas before they meet to form the main river.

The North Branch of Two Rivers

The North Branch is about 61.4 miles (98.8 kilometers) long. It starts about 8 miles (12.9 kilometers) east of a town called Lancaster, Minnesota. This branch flows entirely within Kittson County until it meets up with the South Branch.

The South Branch of Two Rivers

The South Branch is the longest part, stretching about 99.4 miles (160 kilometers). It begins in Roseau County, which is southeast of Badger. From there, it flows west until it joins the North Branch.

Along its journey, the South Branch passes by the town of Greenbush. Then it enters Kittson County and goes past Lake Bronson.

The Middle Branch Joins In

When the South Branch reaches a place called Hallock, another river, the Middle Branch, flows into it from the east. After the Middle Branch joins, the next 28 miles (45.1 kilometers) of the South Branch are considered the main part of the Two Rivers on official maps.
