Tyler Robert Armstrong, born on January 22, 2004, is an amazing American mountain climber. He became famous for being the youngest person ever to climb Aconcagua in Argentina when he was just 9 years old. He has climbed many tall mountains around the world.

Tyler's Climbing Journey
How It Started
Tyler Armstrong began his journey as a mountain climber when he was only 6 years old. He was inspired after watching a documentary about hiking. He learned that the youngest person to climb Mount Whitney was 9. This made Tyler want to train every day. Soon, he started climbing his first mountains.
Big Mountain Expeditions
Climbing Mount Whitney (July 26, 2011)
On July 26, 2011, Tyler climbed Mount Whitney in just one day. He was only 7 years old! This made him possibly the youngest boy to climb this mountain at the time. Mount Whitney is 14,495 feet (4,418 meters) tall. Tyler started at the base camp and hiked 11 miles to the top. He gained more than 6,000 feet in height. It took him 7 hours and 50 minutes to reach the summit.
Conquering Aconcagua (December 24, 2013)
In 2013, Tyler set his sights on Aconcagua. This mountain is 22,837 feet (6,961 meters) high. It is the tallest mountain outside of Asia. As practice, he climbed Mount Baldy on August 17, 2013. This climb was part of an event called "Climb to Cure Duchenne."
Tyler got a special permit to climb Aconcagua. He started his climb on December 15, 2013. He took a route called the Polish Glacier Traverse. On December 24, 2013, Tyler reached the very top. At 9 years old, he broke the record. He became the youngest person to ever climb Aconcagua.
Reaching Denali's Summit (June 2016)
When Tyler was 12, he wanted to climb Mount Everest. However, he was not allowed to get a permit for it in the spring of 2016. Instead, he decided to climb Denali. Denali is the highest peak in North America. It stands at 20,310 feet (6,190 meters). Tyler successfully reached the summit of Denali in June 2016.

Helping Others: Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy Awareness
While climbing Mount Whitney with his parents, Tyler met a boy who had Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This is a serious muscle disease. Tyler decided to help. He teamed up with the CureDuchenne Foundation. His goal was to raise money and awareness for this disease. By the summer of 2016, he had raised $25,000. He hoped to raise one million dollars.
Besides climbing, Tyler also hosted a special movie event. He showed the film Everest. All the money raised from this event went to the CureDuchenne Foundation.
Tyler's Life Outside Climbing
Tyler Armstrong lives in Yorba Linda, California. He lives with his father, Kevin, his mother, Priscilla, and his brother, Dylan. When he's not climbing, Tyler enjoys many hobbies. He likes playing his guitar, soccer, and flag football. He also enjoys video games, swimming, and laser tag. Tyler is also a member of the Boy Scouts.
