Tyler Christopher Baker (born November 11, 1972 – died October 31, 2023) was an American actor. He was known as Tyler Christopher in his acting career.

He was famous for playing Nikolas Cassadine on the TV show General Hospital. He played this role from 1996 to 1999, and again from 2003 to 2011, and 2013 to 2016. He also played Connor Bishop on the same show from 2004 to 2005.

Later, in 2017, Christopher joined the cast of another TV show called Days of Our Lives. He played a new character named Stefan DiMera. He started on the show in December 2017 and left in March 2019.

Early life

Tyler Christopher Baker was born in Joliet, Illinois, on November 11, 1972. His parents were Jim and Jimi-Ann Baker. He grew up in Delaware, Ohio. He was the youngest of four children in his family.

Christopher went to Ohio Wesleyan University for two years.

Career

In 1993, Tyler Christopher, then known as Tyler Baker, tried out for a role. He auditioned for the part of Stone Cates on General Hospital. Another actor, Michael Sutton, got the role instead.

In April 1996, Christopher was chosen to play Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital. He signed a contract for three years. He started filming his first scenes in June 1996. In June 1999, he decided not to renew his contract with the show.

After leaving daytime TV, Christopher appeared in other TV shows. In March 2003, it was announced that he would return to General Hospital. The show's producer, Jill Farren Phelps, was very happy about his return.

In March 2011, news came out that Christopher was leaving General Hospital. This was because he was cast in a new show called The Lying Game. This new show was on ABC Family. Christopher confirmed he was leaving General Hospital. He said his last day was March 18, 2011.

He explained that his contract was ending in June. He was open to working on both shows. He thought it was possible since both were under ABC. Christopher's last appearance on General Hospital was on June 30, 2011. He later came back for a short visit from July 27 to July 30, 2011.

In March 2013, Christopher returned to General Hospital again. He appeared sometimes while still working on The Lying Game. In June 2013, he signed a new contract to be a regular on General Hospital. The next month, The Lying Game was canceled after two seasons.

In May 2016, another actor, Nick Stabile, temporarily played Nikolas. Christopher was not available at that time. In September 2016, it was reported that Christopher would not return to play Nikolas. His last appearance was on June 16, 2016.

In August 2017, Christopher joined the cast of Days of Our Lives. He played a new character. He had made a one-episode guest appearance on the show in 2001. He first appeared as Stefan DiMera on December 29, 2017. His last episode was on March 20, 2019.

Personal life

Christopher was married to actress Eva Longoria. They were married from 2002 to 2004. He later married auto racing reporter Brienne Pedigo. They announced their engagement in October 2006. Christopher and Pedigo got married on September 27, 2008.

They had their first child, a son named Greysun James, on October 3, 2009. In October 2014, they announced they were expecting their second child. Their daughter, Boheme, was born on May 3, 2015. Brienne Pedigo filed for divorce in February 2019.

Death

Tyler Christopher passed away on October 31, 2023. He died in San Diego at the age of 50. His death was caused by a "cardiac event."
