Tyrone Township is a community located in Livingston County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is a type of local government area called a civil township. In 2020, about 11,986 people lived here. This was an increase from 10,020 people in 2010. The township was named after County Tyrone in Northern Ireland.

Places in Tyrone Township

Tyrone Township has a few smaller communities within its borders. These are often called "unincorporated communities." This means they don't have their own separate local government, but they are still part of the township.

  • Hallers Corners is a small community. It is located right on the edge of Hartland Township. You can find it where Denton Hill Road and Holtforth Road meet.
  • Tyrone Center is another community. It is located where Foley Road and Hartland Road cross.

Where is Tyrone Township?

Tyrone Township is in the northeast part of Livingston County. It shares its northern border with Genesee County. To the east, it borders Oakland County.

U.S. Route 23 is a major highway that goes through the township. You can get on or off this highway at Exits 75 and 77. If you go north on US 23, you will reach Flint in about 20 miles. If you go south, you will reach Ann Arbor in about 34 miles.

Land and Water

The total area of Tyrone Township is about 95.1 square kilometers (or 36.7 square miles). Most of this area is land, about 91.8 square kilometers (35.4 square miles). The rest is water, which makes up about 3.2 square kilometers (1.2 square miles), or 3.40% of the total area.

Sergeant Patrick O' Rourke Memorial Highway

Tyrone Township is also home to the Sergeant Patrick O' Rourke Memorial Highway. This highway honors Officer Patrick O' Rourke from West Bloomfield. He was a police officer who sadly died while doing his job.
