Early Life and High School Football
Tyrone Wheatley Jr. grew up playing football. He attended Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York. There, he played two important positions: tight end and defensive end.
He was a very talented player in high school. The Buffalo News newspaper even named him their player of the year. Experts like Rivals.com and Scout.com thought he was one of the best young players in the country.
Many top colleges wanted him to play for their teams. These included Alabama, Florida, UCLA, and USC. However, Tyrone chose to play for the Michigan team. This was a special choice because his father had also played football there.

College Football Career
Tyrone Wheatley Jr. played college football for two different teams.
Playing for Michigan
Tyrone started his college career at the University of Michigan. He played as a tight end. Sadly, he missed his first year because of a foot injury.
In 2016, he played in 12 games. He even scored his first touchdown against the Illinois team. The next year, in 2017, he started three games. He caught three passes for 26 yards.
In March 2018, Tyrone broke a bone in his foot again. This injury kept him from playing in spring practices. Soon after, he decided to leave the Michigan team.
Playing for Stony Brook
After leaving Michigan, Tyrone transferred to Stony Brook University. He joined the Seawolves team in August 2018. Since he moved from a bigger football division (FBS) to a smaller one (FCS), he could play right away.
He became a starting tight end for Stony Brook. He played in eight games and caught six passes. After this season, he transferred again to Morgan State. His father was the head coach there. However, Tyrone did not play any games at Morgan State due to another injury.

The Spring League
In 2021, Tyrone played for the Blues team in The Spring League. This league helps players show their skills to NFL teams. It was here that he switched to playing offensive tackle.
Chicago Bears
After playing in The Spring League, Tyrone signed with the Chicago Bears in June 2021. He was later moved to the team's practice squad. A practice squad is where players train with the team but are not on the main roster. He stayed with the Bears until May 2022.
Las Vegas Raiders
In May 2022, Tyrone signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. He was with the team for a short time before being waived in August of the same year.
Cleveland Browns
Tyrone then joined the practice squad of the Cleveland Browns in September 2022. He signed a contract to stay with the Browns into 2023.
New England Patriots
In August 2023, Tyrone was traded to the New England Patriots. He played in two games for the Patriots, mostly on special teams. Unfortunately, he got a knee injury in October 2023. This injury placed him on injured reserve, meaning he could not play for the rest of the season. He was waived by the Patriots in August 2024.
Atlanta Falcons
On October 21, 2024, Tyrone Wheatley Jr. was signed to the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons. He later signed a contract to be with the Falcons for the 2025 season.

Tyrone Wheatley Jr. comes from a family of football players. His father, Tyrone Wheatley, was also a famous football player. His dad played running back for the Michigan Wolverines and was a first-round pick in the NFL draft. Tyrone Sr. is currently a head coach at Wayne State.
