Early Visitors and Artists
In the summer of 1914, a group of writers and artists from Chicago visited Union Pier. They stayed at a place called "Camp's Cottages" on the beach. Famous writers like Sherwood Anderson and Ben Hecht were part of this group. They enjoyed their vacations in this peaceful lakeside spot.
Lithuanian Community
After World War II ended, many people from Lithuania moved to Union Pier. They created a strong community there. Even though fewer Lithuanian-Americans live in Union Pier today, you can still find places that remind everyone of their heritage. For example, there's Milda's Corner Market and Gintaras Resort, which are important parts of the community's history.
