Unity Village is a small village in Jackson County, Missouri, United States. It is located right next to Kansas City and Lee's Summit. This village is part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area.
The story of Unity Village began in 1919. Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, who started the Unity spiritual movement, bought a 58-acre farm. They wanted it as a fun place for their employees to visit on weekends. By March 1920, this land was known as Unity Farm. Later, they bought 12 more farms nearby, making the total area almost 1,500 acres!
The farm was very productive. It grew many fruits and vegetables, like 7,500 apple trees, a peach orchard with 400 trees, and 12 acres of grapevines. They also had cherry and plum trees, plus fields of oats, corn, wheat, strawberries, asparagus, and soybeans. Unity Farm even had a poultry house with 2,000 white leghorn hens. Their eggs helped provide food for the Unity Inn cafeteria downtown, which served meatless meals.
After World War II, all of the Fillmores' work was brought together at Unity Village. Today, it is the main headquarters for the Unity spiritual movement worldwide. On March 15, 1953, the State of Missouri officially recognized the land as Unity Village. In 2010, the village had a population of 99 people.

Exploring Unity Village's Campus
Unity Village is like a special campus with many old and interesting buildings. Some buildings look like they belong in the English countryside, in a style called Cotswold. Others have a Mediterranean look. These were designed by Waldo Rickert Fillmore, who was Charles and Myrtle Fillmore's second son. The tall Tower and an office building, which was used for the Silent Unity Prayer Ministry, opened in 1929. These buildings are so important that they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Village Lakes
Unity Village also has two man-made lakes. One of them is called Lake Charles R. Fillmore, named after the grandson of the Unity founders. This lake was created in 1926 to provide water for the farm and orchards. A team of 100 men built a special concrete dam to form the lake. This dam is unique because it's the only one of its kind in Missouri and one of the few west of the Mississippi River. It cost $100,000 to build!
The lake is 42 feet deep and covers 21 acres. It holds about 75 million gallons of water. Even today, it is the main source of water for Unity Village. The water is pumped to a treatment plant on campus to make it safe to use.
