Võ Thị Ánh Xuân (born January 8, 1970) is an important politician from Vietnam. She used to be a teacher. Since 2021, she has been the 17th Vice President of Vietnam. She also briefly served as the acting President of Vietnam in both 2023 and 2024.
She was chosen as Vice President on April 6, 2021, with a lot of support from the National Assembly. It's become a common thing for a woman to hold this important job in Vietnam. Before becoming Vice President, Xuân was a leader in the An Giang province. She is the second woman to be an acting president in Vietnam, after Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh. She was also the youngest Vice President of Vietnam since 1945.

Early Life and Education
Võ Thị Ánh Xuân was born on January 8, 1970, in a place called Thới Sơn in An Giang province. She worked as a high school teacher in Long Xuyên, An Giang Province, from 1992 to 1996. She joined the Communist Party of Vietnam in 1994.
Journey in Politics
Võ Thị Ánh Xuân started her political journey in August 1996. She worked in the An Giang Provincial Party Committee. From 2001 to 2010, she was a leader in the An Giang Women's Union. During this time, she also became a member of the An Giang Provincial Party Organisation.
From 2010 to 2013, she was a key member of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee. She also became an alternate member of the Party Central Committee in 2011. Later, she served as the Vice Chairwoman of the An Giang People's Committee. In October 2015, she became the Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, which is a very important leadership role.
In January 2016, she was elected as a member of the 12th Party Central Committee. She also led the An Giang group in the National Assembly.
Becoming Vice President
On April 6, 2021, the National Assembly of Vietnam voted to elect Võ Thị Ánh Xuân as the Vice President. She received strong support from the deputies. She became the youngest Vice President of Vietnam since 1945.
As Vice President, she has attended important events. For example, in June 2022, she went to the inauguration of the Philippine President. In October 2022, she visited Kazakhstan for a big conference.
Serving as Acting President
On January 18, 2023, Võ Thị Ánh Xuân became the Acting President of Vietnam. This happened after the previous President, Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, stepped down. She officially took over the duties on February 4, 2023. During her time as acting president, she appointed new Vietnamese ambassadors. On March 2, 2023, she returned to her role as Vice President after Võ Văn Thưởng was elected as the new President.
She became the Acting President for a second time on March 20, 2024. This happened after Võ Văn Thưởng resigned from his positions. This was a special event because it was the first time a woman had served as Acting President twice in Vietnam. She held this role until a new President was elected.
Activities as Vice President
After her first time as Acting President, Võ Thị Ánh Xuân continued her duties as Vice President. From May 3 to May 8, 2023, she attended the Global Women's Summit in the United Arab Emirates. She also visited Qatar. In August 2023, she helped open new classrooms at a school, a project she helped organize. In October 2023, she received high confidence votes from the National Assembly, showing strong support for her work.
