About Vadim Krasnoselsky
Vadim Krasnoselsky was born on April 14, 1970, in a village called Dauriya. This village is located in the Russian Far East. At that time, it was part of the Soviet Union. His family had a background in the military.
In 1978, when he was a child, his father was moved to a military base in Bender. This city is now located in Moldova. Vadim attended High School No. 102 in Bender. As a child, he also enjoyed music and sports. He even achieved a high level in rowing competitions.
After finishing school in 1987, he began studying in Odesa. He later joined a Military Aviation Engineer Higher School in Kharkiv. He graduated from this school in 1993. After his studies, he decided to join the security forces in Transnistria. He rose through the ranks to become a high-ranking official in the Ministry of the Interior.
From 1998 to 2003, Mr. Krasnoselsky worked in the anti-corruption department. He served in the police force in Bender and later in the central office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He earned a law degree from the Transnistrian State University in 2002. He continued to work for the Bender police. Eventually, he became the chief of police in that city.
In 2007, he became the Minister of the Interior. He held this important position until 2012. After that, he worked in business for three years. In 2015, he was elected to the Supreme Council. He then became the Speaker of this body.
His Time as President
In the 2016 presidential elections, Vadim Krasnoselsky won with 62% of the votes. This made him the President of Transnistria. He officially started his term on December 27, 2016.
As president, he has met with leaders from other countries. For example, he met with the President of Moldova to discuss important matters. He also attended the opening of Transnistria's representative offices in Moscow. These offices help connect Transnistria with Russia. In 2019, he spoke about seeking solutions for Transnistria's future. This included discussions related to Moldova. He also took part in a ceremony with the Russian Defence Minister. This event marked a historical anniversary.
President Krasnoselsky has brought back traditional New Year balls. He attends these events with his wife. In September 2017, he ordered the creation of the Tiraspol Suvorov Military School. This school helps train young cadets for the Armed Forces of Transnistria. He has also often shared his view that Transnistria should be a part of Russia.
Improving Cities and Parks
President Krasnoselsky has focused on making cities more beautiful and green. He has done this by creating new parks and public squares. He has also worked on improving existing ones. During these projects, some parks and areas that had names from the Soviet era were given new names. These new names often reflect Transnistria's history or important figures from the past. This happened in 2020 and 2021.
Changes in the Military
Since 2017, there have been several important changes in the Armed Forces of Transnistria. One big change is that military service now works like a "workday" system. Soldiers report for duty in the morning and go home in the evening. This change has helped reduce problems like hazing.
Another change helps students who are serving in the army. They can now continue their studies through distance learning. This ensures they don't miss out on their education. They even get time off for exams. Also, military units have received new equipment and uniforms. Old buildings have been repaired, and new barracks have been built. These improvements help create better living conditions for soldiers.
Views on History and Culture
Vadim Krasnoselsky has strong opinions about history. He believes it is important to remember all parts of history, including difficult times. He supported setting up the first museum in Transnistria. This museum is dedicated to people who suffered from political repression in the past. He also supported the idea of a monument in Bender. This monument would honor victims of past repression.
He has suggested putting up statues of important historical leaders from the Russian Empire. These include Emperor Alexander III and General Alexander Suvorov. He is actively working to change how tourists see Transnistria. He wants Transnistria to be known for positive images. He believes it should not just be seen as a "fragment of the USSR" with old Soviet monuments. For example, a monument of Vladimir Lenin was moved from the Bender Fortress as part of this effort.
He has expressed support for the idea of a constitutional monarchy. While he was Minister of Internal Affairs, he helped build a chapel in Bender. This chapel honors the imperial family of Nicholas II. He also helped build another chapel in Tiraspol. This chapel is on the site of a church that was taken down during the Soviet era.
In 2021, he confirmed that he continues to celebrate important historical events and people from the Imperial era. He is also working to bring back pre-revolutionary flags and emblems to Transnistrian cities. He believes that Soviet symbols are less important for Transnistria's modern identity.
In 2017, he helped bring back the annual celebration of a historical military regiment. This was the 55th Podolsky Infantry Regiment of the Russian Imperial Army. This event takes place in Bender on August 29. It includes laying flowers, playing a historical anthem, and a military parade.
