Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala (born 23 January 1937) is an important political leader from India. He served as the 12th Governor of Karnataka from September 1, 2014, to July 6, 2021. A Governor is like the head of a state in India, representing the President. Vajubhai Vala was one of the longest-serving governors for Karnataka.
Before becoming a Governor, Vajubhai Vala was the Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2014. The Speaker leads the meetings of the state's law-making body. He is still a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, a major political party in India. He also worked as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Gujarat. A Cabinet Minister is in charge of different areas like finance or jobs. He held these important roles from 1997 to 2012. He was elected many times to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from the Rajkot West area.

Vajubhai Vala's Political Journey
Vajubhai Vala began his journey in politics with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He later joined the Jan Sangh party in 1971.
Early Political Roles
- In 1975, he was held for about eleven months during a time called The Emergency (India). This was a period when special rules were in place across India.
- In the 1980s, he became the Mayor of Rajkot. A Mayor is the leader of a city.
- Later, he was elected to the state assembly from Rajkot. He served as a Cabinet Minister, handling important areas like finance and revenue, from 1998 to 2012.
- He was the finance minister for two terms. He holds a special record for presenting the state budget 18 times in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly. The budget is a plan for how the government will spend money.
Leadership in the Assembly
- In December 2012, he was chosen as the Speaker of the assembly. He served in this role until August 2014.
- In September 2014, he was appointed as the Governor of Karnataka.
Community Involvement
Vajubhai Vala has also been very involved with the Rajkot Nagarik Sahakari Bank. He helped plan and develop banking services there. He was also the Chairman of the bank for five years between 1975 and 1990.
