Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala was an important political leader in India. He was born on January 23, 1937. He served as the 12th Governor of Karnataka from September 1, 2014, to July 6, 2021.
Before becoming a Governor, Vajubhai Vala was the Speaker of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2014. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, a major political party in India. He also worked as a Cabinet Minister in the government of Gujarat. In this role, he managed different important areas like finance and employment from 1997 to 2012. He was elected many times to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from the Rajkot West area.

Vajubhai Vala's Political Journey
Vajubhai Vala began his political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Later, he joined the Jan Sangh party in 1971.
Early Political Roles
- In 1975, he was put in jail for about eleven months during a time called "the emergency" in India.
- In the 1980s, he became the Mayor of Rajkot, a big city.
- After that, he ran for elections in the state assembly from Rajkot.
Serving as a Minister
- From 1998 to 2012, he was a Cabinet Minister. This meant he was in charge of important departments like finance and revenue.
- He was the finance minister for two terms. He holds a special record for presenting the state budget in the Gujarat Legislative Assembly 18 times! This is a very important job, like managing the state's money.
Speaker of the Assembly
- In December 2012, he was chosen to be the Speaker of the assembly. The Speaker is like the referee in a debate, making sure rules are followed.
- He served as Speaker until August 2014.
Governor of Karnataka
- In September 2014, he was appointed as the Governor of Karnataka. A Governor is the head of a state, representing the President of India.
- He was the Governor of Karnataka for nearly seven years, making him one of the longest-serving governors for that state.
Community Involvement
Vajubhai Vala was also very involved with the Rajkot Nagarik Sahakari Bank. He helped plan and develop banking services there. He was also the Chairman of the bank for five years between 1975 and 1990.
