History of Valdemarsvik
Valdemarsvik started as a market town. It was once connected to the city of Söderköping. In 1863, when new local government rules began in Sweden, Valdemarsvik was not made its own municipality. Instead, it was part of a larger area called Ringarum.
Later, in 1914, Valdemarsvik became its own separate municipality. A big change happened in 1971. During a municipal reform, Valdemarsvik, Ringarum, and another area called Gryt joined together. A part of Tjust-Ed also became part of the new municipality. This part of Tjust-Ed moved from Kalmar County to Östergötland County.
