Valentine Louis Telegdi (Hungarian: Telegdi Bálint; born January 11, 1922 – died April 8, 2006) was a brilliant physicist who was born in Hungary and later became an American citizen. He was known for his important work studying tiny particles in physics.

Dr. Telegdi taught physics at the University of Chicago for many years. After that, he moved to ETH Zürich, which is a famous science school in Switzerland. Even after he retired, he continued to work with top science organizations like CERN and the California Institute of Technology. He even led CERN's science policy committee for a few years.

Some people considered him one of "The Martians". This was a nickname for a group of very smart Hungarian scientists who moved to the United States and made big contributions to science.

Awards and Recognitions

Valentine Telegdi received several important awards for his work in physics. These awards showed how much his contributions were valued by the scientific community.

Wolf Prize in Physics

In 1991, Dr. Telegdi shared the Wolf Prize in Physics with another scientist named Maurice Goldhaber. The Wolf Prize is a very respected international award given to scientists for their outstanding achievements in different fields, including physics. It is often seen as one of the most important awards in science, just below the Nobel Prize.

Royal Society Membership

In 2003, he was chosen to be a Foreign Member of the Royal Society (ForMemRS).
