The Valin River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Saguenay River. The Valin River passes through the areas of Mont-Valin, Saint-David-de-Falardeau, and Saint-Fulgence. These places are all in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region.

Several roads help people get to different parts of the Valin River. These include Route Villeneuve and chemin du Volair on the west side. On the east side, you'll find chemin du rang Saint-Joseph. There's also a special path called the Valin river path that runs along the northern part of the river.

The Valin River usually freezes over in late November. It stays frozen until early April. However, it's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-December to the end of March.

Where is the Valin River Located?

The Valin River is surrounded by other important rivers and bodies of water. Knowing these helps us understand its location better.

How Long is the Valin River?

The Valin River is about 53 kilometers (33 miles) long. It starts where two smaller streams, the Bras Fournier and another stream, meet. From there, it flows in different directions before reaching the Saguenay River.

The River's Journey: Upper Part

The first part of the Valin River's journey is about 24.7 kilometers (15.3 miles) long.

  • It starts by flowing southeast, then turns south.
  • It winds southwest, passing by Lac Fournier.
  • The river then turns northwest, meeting a stream.
  • It continues northwest, picking up water from the Gauthier stream and flowing through marshy areas.
  • Finally, this section ends as it flows west, collecting water from the Hector stream and the Saint-Louis river.

The River's Journey: Lower Part

The lower part of the Valin River is about 28.3 kilometers (17.6 miles) long.

  • It flows southwest, then west, collecting water from Lac des Îles.
  • It turns south, making a few curves, until it meets the Le Petit Bras (Valin River).
  • The river then flows southwest, forming two large loops, and passes a spot called Chute à Banc d'Œuvre, where the Bras du Nord joins it.
  • It continues southeast, making another loop, and goes past the Chutes chez Épiphane-Desmeules.
  • The river then flows south, making a loop to the east.
  • The very end of the river flows south through a deep valley, crossing Route 172.

The Valin River ends when it flows into the northern side of the Saguenay River. This meeting point is in the town of Saint-Fulgence. From here, the water from the Valin River joins the Saguenay River. The Saguenay River then flows all the way to Tadoussac, where it meets the much larger Saint-Laurent River.
