Vanishing Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in Oregon, a state in the United States. You can find it on the Salmon River. This river flows near the southern edge of the amazing Mount Hood National Forest in Clackamas County.
This area is special because the Salmon River creates many waterfalls close together. Other waterfalls like Final Falls, Frustration Falls, Little Niagara Falls, and Copper Creek Falls are all less than a mile from Vanishing Falls. Hideaway Falls, Split Falls, and Stein Falls are also nearby, about two miles away.
The waterfall and the trail next to the river are surrounded by a thick forest. You'll see tall Douglas fir trees, western hemlock, and red cedar. There are also bigleaf maple, red alder, and black cottonwood trees mixed in.
Visiting Vanishing Falls
To reach Vanishing Falls, you can start your hike from a special path called a trailhead. This trailhead is located in the town of Welches. Welches is on U.S. Route 26, which goes right through the Mount Hood National Forest.
The trail follows the Salmon River south. Vanishing Falls is the first waterfall you'll see upstream on the Salmon River trail. It's located after Frustration Falls and before you reach Final Falls. The hiking trail is about 7 mi (11 km) long. It needs some skill to hike, so it's important to be careful. Always follow safety rules when you are hiking to waterfalls.
