Vanzant is a small, unincorporated community in Douglas County, Missouri, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that does not have its own local government. It is located in the northeastern part of Douglas County.
Vanzant sits on Route 95. This is where Route 95 crosses with state route W. It is about one mile south of Route 76. The larger town of Mountain Grove is about thirteen miles north. Another community, Drury, is about three miles south on Route 95.
History of Vanzant
Vanzant got its name from an early settler who lived there. A post office was opened in Vanzant in 1892. It was given the zip code 65768. This post office helped people send and receive mail.
Geography and Nature
Vanzant is located on a high area called a ridge. It is about 1,150 feet (350 meters) above sea level. This ridge is between two small streams. These streams flow south into Bryant Creek. To the west is Fox Creek. To the east is Brush Creek.
The Vanzant community church is located north of the main area. It is at the intersection of Routes 95 and 76. The Vanzant cemetery is also nearby. It is about half a mile southeast on route W. Vanzant is also partly inside the Mark Twain National Forest. This forest is a large area of trees and nature.
