Varney is a small place in Mingo County, West Virginia, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Varney is about 6 miles (10 km) southeast of a place called Delbarton.

History of Varney

Building the Appalachian Regional Airport

A big project started near Varney in 2012. This was the beginning of building the Appalachian Regional Airport. This airport is located just north of the community.

By July 2018, the airport was almost finished. It was about 95 percent complete. However, it still needed to pass a few more tests and checks before it could officially open.
