Early Life and First Steps
Vasile Blaga was born in Petrileni, a town in Bihor County. His political journey began after the fall of Communism in Romania in 1989. He first became a member of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies in 1990, representing Bihor County. This role meant he helped create laws for the country.
After serving in the Chamber of Deputies, he became the Prefect of Bihor County in 1991. A Prefect is like a governor for a county, representing the central government. He held this position until 1993.
In 1996, Vasile Blaga was elected to the Romanian Senate. The Senate is one of the two parts of Romania's parliament, similar to the Chamber of Deputies. He represented Bihor County as a member of the Democratic Party. He was re-elected in 2004, this time representing Bucharest, where he lives.
Serving as a Minister
In 2004, Vasile Blaga was appointed the Minister of Administration and Interior Affairs. This job involves overseeing public safety and local government. He held this role until 2007. He returned to this ministry again from 2009 to 2010.
From 2008 to 2009, he also served as the Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration. In this role, he worked on projects to help different regions of Romania grow and improve.
Leading Political Parties

Later, in 2014, the Democratic Liberal Party joined with the National Liberal Party (PNL). After this, Vasile Blaga became a Co-President of the National Liberal Party, working alongside Alina Gorghiu. He held this co-leadership role until 2016.
