Vavuniya District (Tamil: வவுனியா மாவட்டம் Vavuṉiyā Māvaṭṭam; Sinhala: වවුනියා දිස්ත්රික්කය) is one of the 25 districts in Sri Lanka. Districts are like big areas used to help manage the country. The main city and capital of this district is Vavuniya. It's located in the northern part of Sri Lanka.

Vavuniya District is located in the northern part of Sri Lanka. It is part of the Northern Province. The total area of the district is about 1,967 square kilometers (759 square miles). This includes both land and water.
How is Vavuniya District Managed?
Vavuniya District is divided into smaller areas called Divisional Secretary's Divisions (DS Divisions). There are 4 of these divisions. Each one is led by a person called a Divisional Secretary. These DS Divisions are then split even further into 102 smaller areas called Grama Niladhari Divisions (GN Divisions).
