Vayots Dzor is a province (like a state or region) in Armenia. It is located in the southeastern part of the country. To its east, it shares a border with Azerbaijan. In 2002, about 53,230 people lived there. The main city and capital of Vayots Dzor is Yeghegnadzor.
The name "Vayots Dzor" means "Valley of Woes." This name came about because the area has experienced many strong earthquakes throughout history. The province is made up of 3 urban areas (towns) and 41 rural areas (villages).
