Vegas Arriba is a small, quiet area, also called a barrio, located in the mountains of Puerto Rico. It's part of the town of Adjuntas. Imagine a peaceful place with lots of nature – that's Vegas Arriba!
A Look Back in Time
Puerto Rico used to be controlled by Spain. After a war called the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of an agreement known as the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Becoming a U.S. Territory
After the treaty, Puerto Rico became a special kind of place called an unincorporated territory of the United States. This means it's part of the U.S. but doesn't have all the same rights as a state.
Counting the People
