Velva is a city located in McHenry County, North Dakota, in the United States. It is part of the larger Minot area. Velva was officially started in 1897. In 2020, about 1,086 people lived there. The city is found southeast of Minot, right at the southern tip of the Souris River.

History
Velva began to be settled in 1886. This happened when the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste. Marie Railroad (also called the Soo Line) built tracks through the area. The city was officially given its charter in 1905.
A famous building in Velva is the Hotel Berry. It was built in 1906. This hotel was made to serve passengers traveling by train. Today, the Hotel Berry is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means it is an important historical site.
Geography
Velva covers a total area of about 0.96 square miles (2.50 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

- Eric Sevareid (1912–1992) was a well-known broadcast journalist. He was born in Velva and lived there for his first twelve years.
- Dorothy "Dot" Henke is the person who started Dot’s Homestyle Pretzels. This popular snack company began in Velva.
