Venus Lake is a beautiful, small lake located in northern Wisconsin, in a place called Oneida County. It's also known by other names like Lake Kechewaishke or Kechewaishke Lake. This lake is considered "mesotrophic," which means it has a good amount of nutrients, making it healthy for plants and animals.

You can find Venus Lake right where two major roads, U.S. Route 45 and U.S. Route 8, meet. It's about 4 miles (6.4 km) north of another lake called Pelican Lake and very close to the small town of Monico.

What is Venus Lake Like?

Venus Lake covers an area of about 64 acres (0.26 km2). That's like 48 football fields! Its deepest point goes down to 21 feet (6.4 m), which is roughly the height of a two-story building.

Nearby Lakes

Venus Lake isn't alone. It has two neighbors nearby:

  • Mars Lake: This lake is a little smaller than Venus Lake.
  • Neptune Lake: This one is a bit larger than Venus Lake.

Both Mars Lake and Neptune Lake are located to the northwest of Venus Lake.

Fishing and Wildlife

Venus Lake is a popular spot for fishing. Many different kinds of fish live here, making it a fun place to cast a line.

Fish You Can Catch

Some of the fish species you might find in Venus Lake include:

These are all types of "panfish," which means they are often caught for eating.

Invasive Species in the Lake

Unfortunately, Venus Lake also has an invasive species called the Rusty Crayfish. An invasive species is a plant or animal that is not native to an area and can cause harm to the environment. Rusty Crayfish can grow very quickly and spread fast, which can affect the natural balance of the lake's ecosystem.

Getting on the Lake

If you want to go boating on Venus Lake, you'll need to know that there isn't a special boat ramp. This means it might be a bit trickier to launch a boat there.
