The Venus de Milo in the Louvre
The Venus de Milo is a very famous ancient Greek statue. It is found in the Louvre museum in Paris, France. This beautiful statue shows Aphrodite, who was the goddess of love in Greek mythology.
The statue is made from marble stone. It stands about 203 cm (about 6 feet 8 inches) tall. Many people believe that a sculptor named Alexandros of Antioch created it.
Discovery of the Statue
The Venus de Milo was discovered a long time ago. It was found on April 8, 1820. The statue was on the Aegean island of Melos.
After its discovery, King Louis XVIII of France received the statue. He then gave the Venus de Milo to the Louvre museum in 1821. It has been a star attraction there ever since.
