Verano azul (which means Blue Summer in English) is a popular Spanish TV show. It was created by Antonio Mercero and first shown on Spanish TV from October 1981 to February 1982.

The series is about a group of young people, aged 9 to 17, who spend their summer holidays in a small town by the Mediterranean Sea in Spain.

Verano azul had 19 episodes and was watched by up to 20 million people in Spain. At that time, Televisión Española was the only TV channel available. The show has been shown many times since then. It was also popular in other countries like Latin America, Portugal, France, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Poland, and Czechoslovakia.

How the Show Was Made

The series was filmed over 16 months, from August 1979 to December 1980. Most of it was shot in Nerja, a town in the Province of Málaga, Spain. Some scenes were also filmed in Motril and Almuñécar.

The famous boat La Dorada, where Chanquete lived, was placed near a cliff. There were originally 20 episodes planned, but one episode called "The Excursion" was cancelled because it was too difficult to film.
