How Vessigebro Got Its Name

The town of Vessigebro started near a ford over the Ätran River. A ford is a shallow place where people and animals can cross a river easily. Because of this, its first name was Vessigevad.

The word vad in Swedish means "ford." Later, a bridge was built over the river in the village. Since bro is the Swedish word for "bridge," the town's name was changed to Vessigebro. This new name shows how important the bridge became for the community.
