Niclas Alexandersson is a former professional footballer from Sweden. He was born on December 29, 1971. Niclas mostly played as a right winger or a right back on the field.
He started his football journey with Halmstad in 1989. Later, he played for several famous clubs. These included IFK Göteborg in Sweden and English teams like Sheffield Wednesday, Everton, and West Ham United. He retired from playing in 2009.
Niclas also played a lot for the Swedish national team. He played in 109 international games between 1993 and 2008. He represented Sweden in two FIFA World Cups (in 2002 and 2006). He also played in two UEFA European Championships (in 2000 and 2008).

Playing for Clubs
Niclas Alexandersson began his football career at a local club called Vessigebro. In 1988, he moved to Halmstad. He played there until 1995. After that, he joined IFK Göteborg. With IFK Göteborg, he won the Swedish league, Allsvenskan, in 1996. He also got to play in the UEFA Champions League, which is a big European club competition.
Moving to England
After playing for one year in Gothenburg, Niclas moved to England. He joined Sheffield Wednesday in 1997. He quickly became a favorite among the fans there. He even won the "Player of The Season" award. This was in the year his team was moved down from the Premier League.
After Sheffield Wednesday, he joined Everton in 2000. He played for Everton until 2003. Then, he went back to IFK Göteborg in Sweden. He played for them again from 2004 to 2008.
Brief Comeback
Niclas first retired from football in 2008. He then started working at IFK Göteborg's youth academy. But in 2009, he decided to make a short comeback. He signed a contract to play for IFK Göteborg for the rest of that season. After that season, he retired for good.
In 2017, Niclas made another very brief return to the field. He played one game for Västra Frölunda. He came on as a substitute and even played alongside his son, Noah Alexandersson. They won the game 6–0!
Playing for Sweden
Niclas Alexandersson played his first game for the Swedish national team in 1993. He played in 109 international games and scored seven goals for his country. He was a key player for Sweden in many big tournaments.
Major Tournaments
He played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He also represented Sweden in the Euro 2000 and Euro 2008 tournaments. Before that, he was part of the Swedish team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.
One of his most memorable goals was in the 2002 World Cup. Sweden was playing against England. Niclas scored a powerful shot from outside the box. The ball went past the English goalkeeper, David Seaman, and the game ended in a 1–1 draw.
After Sweden was out of Euro 2008, Niclas decided to retire from the national team. He said he would only play again if the team really needed him due to injuries.
