Jens Niclas Alexandersson (born 29 December 1971) is a Swedish former professional footballer. He played mainly as a right winger or right back.

Niclas started his football journey with Halmstad in 1989. He then played for several well-known clubs. These included IFK Göteborg in Sweden and English teams like Sheffield Wednesday, Everton, and West Ham United. He officially retired from the sport in 2009.

He was also a very important player for the Swedish national team. Between 1993 and 2008, he played in 109 international games. He represented Sweden in two FIFA World Cups (in 2002 and 2006). He also played in two UEFA European Championships (in 2000 and 2008).

Niclas Alexandersson began his football career at a local club called Vessigebro. In 1988, he joined Halmstad. He played for Halmstad until 1995.

Playing for IFK Göteborg and English Clubs

In 1995, Niclas moved to IFK Göteborg. With this team, he won the Allsvenskan league title in 1996. He also got to play in the exciting UEFA Champions League tournament. After one year in Sweden, he moved to England.

Sheffield Wednesday bought him for £750,000. He played for three seasons in Sheffield. Fans really liked him there. He even won the Player of The Season award. This was in the year the team moved down from the Premier League to a lower division.

After that, Everton signed him for £2.5 million. He played for Everton from 2000 to 2003. In 2004, he returned to IFK Göteborg and played there until 2008.

Coming Back to Play Football

Niclas first retired from football in 2008. He then started working at IFK Göteborg's youth academy. But in September 2009, news came out that he would play again! He signed a contract for the rest of that season. After the season ended, he retired for good.

In 2017, Niclas made a short comeback. He played in a game for Västra Frölunda. He came on as a substitute in the 78th minute. What was special was that he played alongside his son, Noah Alexandersson, in a 6–0 win.

He played for Sweden in big tournaments like the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He also played in the UEFA European Championship in 2000 and 2008. Niclas was also part of the Swedish team at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.

One of his most famous goals was against England. This happened during the 2002 World Cup. He shot the ball powerfully from outside the box. It went past the goalkeeper, David Seaman, and helped Sweden get a 1–1 draw.

Retirement from the National Team

After Sweden left the Euro 2008 tournament, Niclas decided to retire from the national team. His teammate Marcus Allbäck also retired at the same time. However, Niclas said he would play again if the team really needed him due to injuries.

Niclas Alexandersson was born in Halmstad, Sweden, on 29 December 1971. His father, Lennart Alexandersson, was also a football player for Halmstad. Niclas grew up in Falkenberg. He started playing football at his local club, Vessigebro.

In 1978, his brother, Daniel Alexandersson, was born. Daniel also became a professional football player. In 1988, Niclas moved to Halmstad to play for Halmstads BK. He went to Falkenbergsgymnasieskola from 1987 to 1990.

Niclas is married to his wife, Frida. They had their first child, Tilda, in 1999. Their son, Noah, was born in 2001. While Niclas was playing football, his family lived in many places. These included Sheffield, Liverpool, Warrington, and London. They later returned to Gothenborg. His son, Noah Alexandersson, has also become a professional footballer. He plays for IFK Göteborg in the Allsvenskan league.
