Vet Stone, born Vaetta Stewart on May 2, 1950, in Vallejo, California, is a talented American soul singer. She is known for her powerful voice and her family connections in music. Vet is the sister of famous musicians Sly Stone, Rose Stone, and Freddie Stone. She was also an important member of two well-known bands: Sly & the Family Stone and Little Sister.

Early Life and Musical Start

Vaetta Stewart was born to K.C. and Alpha Stewart. She grew up in a very musical family. While some sources say she was born in Texas, she was actually born in California in 1950. The family moved to San Francisco in the 1940s.

When she was seventeen, Vet faced a health challenge. Luckily, she recovered quickly. This allowed her to continue her journey in music. She became the lead singer for the funk group Little Sister. In 1970, this group had a big hit song called "You're the One." Vet was also a key part of the legendary band Sly & the Family Stone.

Vet Stone's Music Career

Vet Stone has had a long and exciting career in music. She has been active from the 1960s all the way to today.

Starting in the 1960s

In 1966, Vet was part of a group called The Heavenly Tones. They recorded an album titled I Love the Lord. This album was released on the Gospel record label. Another singer in the group was Tramaine Hawkins. Vet's brother, Sly Stone, wanted the group to tour with him. However, Tramaine Hawkins chose to finish school instead.

After that, the group changed its name to Little Sister. The members were Vaetta Stewart (Vet), Mary McCreary, and Elva Mouton.

Touring and Recording in the 1970s

In 1970, Sly & the Family Stone traveled to England. They performed at the famous Isle of Wight Festival. Vet went on tour with the band during this time. Her sister Rose did not join them for that tour.

Vet also played a role in the band's studio recordings. In 1974, she played keyboards and sang backing vocals on the album Small Talk. The band members at that time included Sly Stone, Freddie Stone, Rose Stone Banks, Vet herself, and many other talented musicians.

Vet also lent her voice to Sly Stone's solo projects. She sang backing vocals on his album High on You. She worked alongside Dawn Silva and Tiny Melton on this album. In 1977, Vet and Tiny Moulton also contributed backing vocals to the Sly & the Family Stone album, Heard Ya Missed Me, Well I'm Back.

Music in the 2000s

By 2005, Vet Stone was a member of a band called Phunk Phamily Affair. This group continued to perform. In 2007, Vet and Phunk Phamily Affair played at the Lovebox festival in London. During their performance, Sly Stone surprised the audience by joining them on stage. He performed some of his classic songs.

Vet then became the main leader of a band called Family Stone. This band was formerly known as Phunk Phamily Affair. Her sister Rose Stone and Rose's daughter Lisa Stone were also members of this group. In January 2007, thanks to Vet's encouragement, Sly Stone performed live for the first time in twenty years. This special event took place at the House of Blues in Anaheim, California.

In 2014, some of Vet's recordings with Little Sister were released. They appeared on an album called I’m Just Like You: Sly’s Stone Flower 1969-1970. This album was put out by Light in the Attic Records.
