History of Veyo

Veyo became its own separate community in 1918. Before that, it was part of a nearby place called Gunlock.

There are a couple of ideas about how Veyo got its name:

  • One story says the name is an acronym. This means each letter stands for a word: virtue, enterprise, youth, and order.
  • Another idea is that the name combines the words verdure (meaning green plants or fresh growth) and youth.
  • There is also a town named Veyo in Spain. That town is sometimes called La Peña, which means "the rock" or "rocky outcrop."
