History of Viborg
Viborg was founded by people from Denmark who moved to America. They are called Danish Americans. The city is named after a city in Denmark, also called Viborg.
Early Settlement and Name
Danish families first settled in this area in the 1860s. They created a community they called Daneville. This name showed their Danish heritage.
The Arrival of the Railway
In 1893, a railway line was built nearby. This was a big deal because railways made it easier to travel and move goods. A new town was started closer to the railway. This new town was named Viborg.
Becoming a City
Viborg officially became a city on August 25, 1903. This meant it had its own local government.
