The painting View and Plan of Toledo (in Spanish: Vista y plano de Toledo) was created around 1608 by the famous artist El Greco. It's a special kind of landscape because it shows a view of the city of Toledo combined with a map of its streets.
In this artwork, El Greco also included some interesting details. You can see an allegory of the Tagus River. There's also a scene showing the Virgin Mary placing a special robe called a chasuble on Saint Ildefonsus. Plus, a drawing of the Tavera Hospital appears to float on a cloud.
This painting was likely ordered by a person named Pedro Salazar de MendozaEl Greco Museum in Toledo, Spain.

For a long time, people thought the city council of Toledo might have asked for this painting. However, most experts now agree that it was probably ordered by Pedro Salazar de Mendoza.
Pedro Salazar was in charge of the Tavera Hospital. This hospital is shown in the middle of the painting. He also enjoyed collecting maps and pictures of cities.
The painting was listed in Pedro Salazar's belongings in 1629. Other works by El Greco, like View of Toledo and several portraits, were also there.
Pedro Salazar also asked El Greco to create altarpieces for the Tavera Hospital's chapel around the same time. This suggests he was a big supporter of El Greco's art.
The painting was listed in El Greco's own belongings in 1614 after he passed away. It also appeared in his son Jorge Manuel's belongings in 1621. This means Pedro Salazar probably received the painting a few years after El Greco's death.
Later, the painting was owned by the Hospital de Santiago. Then it went to the Convento de San Pedro Mártir and the Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes. Finally, it became part of the collection at the Museo del Greco in 1910.
