Vilanova d'Alcolea (also called Villanueva de Alcolea in Spanish) is a small town in Spain. It is located in the Valencian Community, in the province of Castelló. The town is about 36 kilometers northeast of Castelló de la Plana.
Vilanova d'Alcolea is a rural town. It is known for its dryland farming. This means farmers grow crops without much irrigation. The area is surrounded by fields of vineyards, olive, almond, and carob trees.

History of Vilanova d'Alcolea
Vilanova d'Alcolea has a long history. It was once part of Les Coves de Vinromà. After the time of the Moorish people, the town came under the control of different groups.
In 1245, the Knights of Calatrava took charge. Then, in 1295, the Knights Templar protected the town. Finally, from 1319 onwards, Vilanova d'Alcolea was protected by the Knights of Montesa. For many years, until the 1800s, the nearby town of La Torre d'en Doménec was part of Vilanova d'Alcolea's church area.
Castellón-Costa Azahar Airport
Just 2 kilometers south of Vilanova d'Alcolea, you will find the airport of Castelló de la Plana. It is called Aeroport de Castelló - Costa Azahar. The airport was finished in 2011.
For a while, the airport was not used. This was because people wondered if it was really needed. The Manises airport in Valencia is quite close to Castelló. Some groups also worried about the environment. They questioned where the airport was built and if it was necessary. However, the airport was completed.
