Villa Grove is a small community in Saguache County, Colorado, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county. Villa Grove also has a U.S. Post Office with the ZIP Code 81155.
History
Villa Grove has an interesting past! It was first started in 1870 by the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad. At first, it was called Garibaldi. This name honored Giuseppe Garibaldi, a famous Italian leader who fought for freedom.
From 1870 to 1890, Garibaldi was the very last stop for the Rio Grande's narrow-gauge train line that went over Poncha Pass. A narrow-gauge train uses tracks that are closer together than regular train tracks.
The Garibaldi Post Office opened on June 13, 1870. However, the town's name was changed to the less political Villa Grove on January 19, 1872. The spelling of the town's name changed again to Villagrove on October 12, 1894. Finally, on July 1, 1950, it went back to being spelled Villa Grove, which is how it is known today.
